The St. Petersburg City Court reviewed and increased documentarian Vsevolod Korolev's sentence from three to seven years in a general-regime colony.
In March, the Vyborgsky District Court found Korolev guilty of spreading "fake news" about the army, but the prosecutor sought a harsher punishment. Korolev and his lawyer deem the sentence illegal and unfounded.
Korolev was detained in July 2022 for VKontakte posts about the killings of civilians in Bucha and Borodyanka and the shelling of Donetsk. Independent experts claim his words were taken out of context.
